Information on renouncing British citizenship and correcting a registration/naturalisation certificate

Whether you are applying for a certificate of entitlement to the right of abode, or you need the correct form.

Here’s what you need to know.

Please note: for renouncing your British citizenship or another type of British nationality, paper forms are for those who live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or a British Overseas Territory. If you are resident in the UK or elsewhere, you must apply online.

  • If want to apply to renounce your British citizenship or another type of British nationality if you live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory or if you live elsewhere, you must apply using form RN 
  • If you want to request an amendment to your certificate of registration or naturalisation, you must do so using form RR

Please note that due to coronavirus (COVID-19), applications via post will take longer than an online application. If are in the UK and require assistance with an online application, get help here.

Additionally, please be advised that the above information is not exhaustive as there are more requirements and points to consider.
