Information on British nationality and citizenship

Whether you’re applying for a duplicate citizenship certificate, confirmation of British nationality status, proof that you do not have British citizenship or require an application for review when your British citizenship has been refused, you need the correct form.

Here’s what you need to know.

Please note: paper forms are for those who live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or a British Overseas Territory. If you are resident in the UK or elsewhere, you must apply online.

  • If want to apply for a replacement certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen if you live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory or if you live elsewhere, you must apply using form NC 
  • If you want to apply for a letter to confirm your nationality status if you live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory or if you live elsewhere, you must apply using form NS
  • If you want to apply for confirmation that you have not gained British citizenship if you are a foreign national now living in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory or if you live elsewhere, you must apply using form NQ 
  • If you want to ask UK Visas and Immigration to review its decision to refuse your application for British citizenship, you must do so using form NR

Please note that due to coronavirus (COVID-19), applications via post will take longer than an online application. If are in the UK and require assistance with an online application, get help here.
